In Saskatchewan gibt es – au\u00dfer Getreidefeldern und scheinbar endlos langen Z\u00fcgen – nicht viel zu sehen. Trotzdem sind die \u201ePlains\u201c nicht so schlimm, wie wir bef\u00fcrchtet hatten. Allerdings liegen viele Tierkadaver neben dem Highway. Wir machen einen kurzen Abstecher zur H\u00e4ngebr\u00fccke in Wolseley. Sie wurde urspr\u00fcnglich in 1902 gebaut und dann in 2004 rekonstruiert. Da das Fahren gegen die untergehende Sonne recht anstrengend f\u00fcr Ralph ist und wir einen offenen Campingplatz \u00f6stlich von Regina finden, beenden wir unsere erste Etappe in der Provinz relativ fr\u00fch und schauen nochmal nach der Heizung, die dann auch wieder l\u00e4uft.
\nDie Heizung ist die ganze Nacht durchgelaufen und wir haben beide schlecht geschlafen, da es uns zu warm war. Hinter der Provinzhauptstadt Regina werden die Fl\u00e4chen immer offener und nur durch gro\u00dfe Silos unterbrochen. In Moose Jaw machen wir einen kurzen Stop an der Touristinformation. Auf dem Parkplatz steht das Wahrzeichen der Stadt; ein riesiger Elch. Direkt daneben ist ein altes Flugzeug aufgebaut. In der Touristinfo ist eine kleine Ausstellung \u00fcber den Getreideanbau. Saskatchewan ist die Kornkammer Kanadas. Als wir ein Hinweisschild auf eine Vogelbeobachtungsstation sehen, fahren wir runter vom Highway. Leider ist die Anlage am Chaplin Lake geschlossen. So fahren wir weiter. Unser Nachtlager finden wir dann auf dem Parkplatz eines Golfclubs kurz vor Gull Lake. Der nebenan liegende Rastplatz ist mal wieder geschlossen.
\nWir haben wieder schlecht geschlafen. Diesmal war es aber nicht, weil es zu warm war (die Heizung geht mal wieder nicht) sondern wegen des L\u00e4rms der in der N\u00e4he vorbeifahrenden Z\u00fcge. Als wir das erste Mal rausschauen, sehen wir, da\u00df alles vereist und unserem Albatros \u00fcber Nacht ein \u201eBart\u201c gewachsen ist. Wir fahren weiter und ehe wir uns versehen, sind wir auch schon durch Saskatchewan durchgefahren.
\nDer Highway l\u00e4uft \u00fcber weite Strecken parallel zur Canadian Pacific Railway. Als uns mal wieder ein Zug entgegenkommt, schaut Ralph auf den Tacho. Wir fahren 1 km bis wir das Ende des Zuges erreichen. Da der Zug sich (gesch\u00e4tzt) mit der gleichen Geschwindigkeit wie wir bewegt (80 km\/h), mu\u00df er also ca. 2 km lang sein. Das ist hier keine Seltenheit.<\/p>\n

There isn\u2019t much to see in Saskatchewan except for the huge fields and very long trains that seem to have no end. However, the plains are not as bad as we thought they would be but we see a lot of dead animals besides the highway. We go for a short diversion to see the Swinging Bridge in Wolseley. It was originally built in 1902 and then reconstructed in 2004. Since driving against the sunset is quite exhausting for Ralph and we find an open campground just east of Regina, we already call it a day early and work on our heating system until it works again.
\nThe heating worked the whole night and we both didn\u2019t sleep well since it was too warm. After we pass Regina, the provincial capital city, the plains become much more open. They are only interrupted by big silos. We have a short stop at the VIC in Moose Jaw. There is a big moose monument and an old plane on display; the main attractions of the town. Inside the VIC is a small exhibition about the grain cultivation. Saskatchewan ist the breadbasket of Canada. When we see a sign for a bird sanctuary we pull off the HWY but unfortunat lay the house is closed and we drive on. We stop for the night on the parking lot of a golf club shortly before Gull Lake. The rest ground nearby is once again closed.
\nAgain we didn\u2019t sleep well. However, this time it wasn\u2019t due to the warmth (the heating doesn\u2019t work again) but because of the noise of trains passing nearby. When we first glance out of the windows we see that everything is covered with a thin layer of ice and our Albatros has grown a \u201cbeard\u201d overnight. We continue driving and soon leave Saskatchewan again.
\nThe highway is parallel to the Canadian Pacific Railway most of the time. Once, when we see an oncoming train, Ralph checks the meter and we drive for 1 km until we reach the end of the train. Since the train is travelling (estimated) with the same speed as we (80 km\/h) it is about 2 km long. This is not something unusual in this area.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
