Der Herring ist angekommen! Gestern war uns schon aufgefallen, dass den ganzen Tag viele Fischerboote in der Lazo Bucht unterwegs waren. Als wir heute am Strand entlang fahren, sehen wir, dass dort viele tote Fische liegen. Bei einem Stop erkl\u00e4rt uns eine Frau, dass Herring Montagnacht angekommen ist und es sich um den \u00dcberschuss aus den Fischerbooten handelt. Die V\u00f6gel sind nat\u00fcrlich f\u00fcr diese leichte Beute dankbar aber auch einige Leute laufen mit Eimern am Strand entlang und sammeln Fische auf. Wir folgen weiter der K\u00fcste und es f\u00e4ngt wieder an zu schneien. Da das Fahren recht anstrengend wird, machen wir fr\u00fch in Qualicum Beach Feierabend, als wir dort einen ge\u00f6ffneten Campingplatz sehen.
\nAuch am n\u00e4chsten Tag fahren wir erstmal weiter an der K\u00fcste entlang. Dann geht es \u00fcber Nebenstrassen zum First Lake. Dort \u00fcbernachten wir ganz alleine auf dem (geschlossenen) Campingplatz einer Holzgesellschaft.
\nUnser n\u00e4chstes Ziel ist Nanaimo. Wir verlassen die Stadt aber schnell wieder, da wir die Touristinformation nicht finden. Mit einem Stop und Spaziergang am Roberts Memorial Park fahren wir bis Chemainus, wo wir auf dem RV Parkplatz oberhalb vom Hafen dirket an einem S\u00e4gewerk stehen bleiben und noch einen kurzen Bummel durch den Ort machen.
\nMorgens entdecken wir Schimmel in den Bettschr\u00e4nken. Also packen wir alles aus und sehen zu, dass wir die Schr\u00e4nke trocken bekommen. Zu allem \u00dcberfluss haben wir beim Umstellen der Wassertanks dann auch noch einen Wassereinbruch. So sind wir bis mittags besch\u00e4ftigt. Zwischendurch beobachten wir noch, wie ein Holzflo\u00df in den Hafen gebracht wird. Dann g\u00f6nnen wir uns ein Essen im Willow\u2019s Street Cafe, das wir von unserem letzten Stop in Chemainus in guter Erinnerung hatten. Als Ralph nach dem Wasserproblem schauen will, ist wundersamerweise alles wieder dicht. So k\u00f6nnen wir wenigstens noch einen Spaziergang durch die Altstadt machen.
\nAm n\u00e4chsten Morgen fahren wir als erstes zur B\u00fccherei, da wir dringend WiFi brauchen um eine Versicherungsangelegenheit zu kl\u00e4ren. Danach geht es weiter bis Duncan. Dort treffen wir auf einem Parkplatz eine junge Frau mit ihren Kindern. Die beiden gr\u00f6\u00dferen (ca. 8-10 Jahre) sind total begeistert von unserem Albatros. Sie stellen jede Menge Fragen und lassen sich alles m\u00f6gliche zeigen und erkl\u00e4ren. \u00dcber Nebenstrassen geht es dann weiter zum Shawnigang Lake. Dort finden wir zwar einen Picknick- aber keinen Campingplatz. Da uns der Preis f\u00fcr einen Stellplatz in einem Provinzial Park ohne Stromanschl\u00fcsse zu hoch ist, fahren wir noch weiter bis wir in Langfort am All Fun RV Park \u00fcbernachten.
\nEs ist nur noch eine kurze Fahrt bis Victoria, wo wir wieder den Parkplatz am Hafen ansteuern. Ich l\u00f6se eine Tageskarte und stelle fest, dass wir damit auch \u00fcber Nacht stehen bleiben d\u00fcrfen. Mittags laufen wir am Hafen entlang und durch die Stadt und abends geht es nochmal am Hafenbecken entlang. Da es anf\u00e4ngt zu regnen, gehen wir relativ fr\u00fch zur\u00fcck.
\nAuch heute haben wir nur eine kurze Etappe zu fahren, denn wir wollen in den Victoria Butterfly Garden, der bei unserer Ankunft noch geschlossen war. Dort halten wir uns eine ganze Weile auf, beschlie\u00dfen dann aber, dass wir heute noch die 17:00h F\u00e4hre zur\u00fcck nach Tsawwassen nehmen und dort beim Walmart \u00fcbernachten werden.<\/p>\n

English Version (no translation of German text) <\/strong><\/p>\n

The hering has arrived! Yesterday we already noted that Lazo Bay was full with fishing boats all day. Today we see a lot of dead fish along the shore. During a stop a woman tells us, that the hering arrived on Monday night and the dead fish are the surplus from the fishing boats. The birds are happy about the easy feast but some people are out with buckets and collecting fish as well. We follow the coast line and it starts snowing again. Since driving becomes exhausting we call it a day pretty early when we see an open campground at Qualicum Beach.
\nWe continue along the coast in the morning but then follow minor roads towards Frist Lake where we spend the night alone on the (closed) campground of a logging company.
\nOur next destination is Nanaimo. However, since we can\u2019t find the VIC we leave the town pretty soon again. We stop for a break and a short stroll at Roberts Memorial Park and then drive until Chemainus. We stay at the RV parking lot directly at the harbor and sawmill and go for a short walk through the town.
\nIn the morning we discover mildew in our bed cabinets. Therefore we unload everything and ensure the cabinets are dry. Unfortunately we have a water leakage as well and are busy until lunch time. In between we watch a float of wood being dragged into the harbor. We pamper ourselves with a nice lunch in Willow\u2019s Street Caf\u00e9 which we remember from our last stop. When Ralph starts investigating the water leakage everything is miraculously fine again. That leaves us some time to go for a walk through downtown.
\nOur first stop in the morning is at the library since we urgently need WiFi for an insurance matter. Afterwards we move on until Duncan where we meet a young woman with her kids at the parking. The two bigger boys (approx. 8-10 years) are totally fascinated with our car. They ask a lot of questions about details. We then drive along minor roads towards Shawnigang Lake. We find a rest area but no campground and since we are not willing to pay the (high) price for a provincial park that doesn\u2019t provide any hookups we drive until Langfort where we stop for the night at the All Fun RV Park.
\nIt\u2019s only a short drive to Victoria where we head for the parking at the harbor again. I buy a day ticket and realize that we can stay the night as well. We go for a walk along the harbor and the city center until early afternoon. In the evening we stroll along the harbor again but since it starts raining we go back to the car early.
\nToday is only a short drive again since we want to visit the Victoria Butterfly Garden which was closed when we arrived. We spend a couple of hours there but decide to take the 5 pm ferry back to Tsawwassen and stay at the Walmart again.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
