Die ersten paar Tage zur\u00fcck auf dem Festland verbringen wir in Tsawwassen und Umgebung. Bei schlechtem Wetter erforschen wir die Tsawwassen Mills, ein relativ neues Einkaufszentrum. F\u00fcr uns sind hier zwei Gesch\u00e4fte am interessantesten: ein riesiger Angel-, Jagd- und Bootsausstatter und die Blue Lotus Art Gallery. In die Gallerie ziehen uns vor allem die HDR Panoramafotografien von Vancouver. Dar\u00fcber kommen wir mit Pablo ins Gespr\u00e4ch und er tauscht an zwei Nachmittagen bzw. Abenden jede Menge Erfahrungen und Informationen \u00fcber Bildbearbeitung und entsprechende Software mit Ralph aus. Wir verbringen insgesamt bestimmt 4-6 Stunden mit ihm und verlassen die Gallerie mit einem ca. 25×30 cm gro\u00dfen Ausdruck von einem unserer Adlerfotos. An dieser Stelle ein riesiger Dank an Pablo f\u00fcr seine Hilfsbereitschaft und Tips. Bei sch\u00f6nem Wetter halten wir uns in der N\u00e4he der M\u00fclldeponie und im Boundary Bay Regional Park auf. In erster Linie geht es hier wieder um Adlerfotografie aber wir machen auch ein paar sch\u00f6ne Spazierg\u00e4nge durch den Park und am Strand entlang.
\nAls n\u00e4chstes steht wieder der Campingplatz in Burnaby auf unserem Program. Hier holen wir unsere offiziellen Dokument der Visaverl\u00e4ngerung ab. Dann treten wieder Probleme mit der Heizung auf. Da wir sie diesmal nicht selber beheben k\u00f6nnen, steht ein Werkstattbesuch an. Es dauert zwei Tage, bis wir eine Werkstatt gefunden haben, die uns auch weiterhelfen kann. Dann stellt sich auch noch heraus, dass ein Ersatzteil erst bestellt werden muss. Da wir jedoch am Samstag schon eine Verabredung mit David und seiner Frau haben, wird die Heizung f\u00fcr die Reparatur ausgebaut und wir machen uns ohne sie auf eine kleine Rundreise; Abbotsford, Whistler, Kamloops, Hope, Abbotsford.
\nWieder fahren wir den Sea to Sky Highway aber diesmal bei schlechtem Wetter. Von der tollen Landschaft ist daher nicht viel zu sehen. Auch Whistler ist im Regen nicht besonders attraktiv und so sind wir schon einen Tag fr\u00fcher als geplant in Kamloops. Am Samstagmittag treffen wir dort dann zeitgleich mit David und Pamela an der Touristinformation ein. Nach einem gemeinsamen Mittagessen sitzen wir noch eine Weile zusammen im Albatros und reden \u00fcber alles M\u00f6gliche rund um das Reisen und dann machen wir uns wieder auf den R\u00fcckweg.
\nWie vereinbart stehen wir am Montag vor der Werkstatt in Abbotsford doch dann haben sie schlechte Nachrichten f\u00fcr uns. Das Ersatzteil ist noch nicht da. Was nun? Wir gehen erstmal auf einen Campingplatz. Ralph will aber nicht mehr als eine Nacht bleiben und notfalls mit der kaputten Heizung weiter fahren. Am n\u00e4chsten Morgen werden wir jedoch schon erwartet und gegen Mittag sind wir dann mit funktionierender Heizung wieder unterwegs. Nun kann es doch noch was mit dem geplanten Treffen mit Christl, Werner & Schneckerl geben. Wir nehmen diesmal die schnellste Strecke und fahren \u00fcber Merritt, Kamloops und Revelstoke nach Lake Louise. Es liegt bei weitem nicht mehr so viel Schnee wie im Dezember, als wir in die andere Richtung unterwegs waren. Am Crazy Creek Resort machen wir Mittagspause und gehen nochmal in den Hot Pool. Diesmal stehen tats\u00e4chlich 3 Camper auf dem Platz. Am Rogers Pass liegt noch richtig viel Schnee aber es ist alles ger\u00e4umt. Als wir am Freitagnachmittag auf dem Overflow Parkplatz in Lake Louise ankommen, ist unsere Freude gro\u00df, denn wir k\u00f6nnen \u201eSchneckerl\u201c schon von der Einfahrt aus sehen. Mit mehr als 3 Monaten Versp\u00e4tung sehen wir uns also endlich wieder. Bei sch\u00f6nem Wetter sitzen wir sogar noch eine ganze Weile drau\u00dfen (die Autos sind strategisch als Windschutz aufgestellt).
\nWir verbringen ein paar Tage auf dem Parkplatz und in Lake Louise, laufen am und auf dem See und machen eine grobe Planung unserer weiteren Reise bis Dawson City und wo wir uns wohl nochmal treffen k\u00f6nnen. Am Tag vor der geplanten Weiterfahrt f\u00e4llt mir ein Hinweis in unserem Stra\u00dfenatlas auf: Der Icefields Parkway von Lake Louise nach Jasper ist im Winter f\u00fcr Fahrzeuge \u00fcber 4,5t gesperrt. R\u00fcckfragen bei einem Polizisten und im Visitorcenter ergeben, dass das f\u00fcr ALLE Fahrzeuge gilt. Aus der Traum von unserer Tour \u00fcber einen der sch\u00f6nsten Highways im Norden Kanadas. Nach gemeinsamer Beratung beschlie\u00dfen wir, die Rocky Mountains \u00f6stlich \u00fcber die Highways 22 und 43 bis Grande Prairie zum umfahren. Ab da geht es dann hoffentlich wieder wie geplant weiter. Der Highway 22 ist zwar verkehrsm\u00e4\u00dfig gut zu fahren, aber mit seinen schier unendlichen Geradeausstrecken ist er landschaftlich doch eher eint\u00f6nig. <\/p>\n

Back on the mainland we spent the first couple of days in Tsawwassen and surroundings. During rainy periods we visit Tsawwassen Mills, a relatively new shopping mal. Two stores are the most interesting for us: a huge fishing-, hunting- and boating store and the Blue Lotus Art Gallery. The HDR panoramic pictures of Vancouver draw us into the gallery and we get in contact with Pablo. During two afternoons\/evenings he exchanges a lot of information about tools and software to work on photos with Ralph. In total we spend at least 4-6 hours in the gallery and we leave it with a printout of approx. 25×30 cm of one of our eagle pictures. Big thanks again to Pablo for his helpfulness and all the tips he shared. During sunny periods we drive to the Delta landfill and Boundary Bay Regional Park for more eagle pictures but we go for some nice hikes through the park and along the beach as well.
\nOur next destination is back to the campground in Burnaby where we pick up the official documents for our visa extensions. Whilst there, we have problems with the heating system again. This time we don\u2019t manage to fix it ourselves and therefore need to go to a garage. It takes two days to find one that can really help and then it turns out, that they have to order a spare part. Since we already made an appointment with David and his wife for Saturday they dismantle the heating system and we head off without it for a small loop; Abbotsford, Whistler, Kamloops, Hope, Abbotsford.
\nAgain we take the Sea to Sky Highway but this time in bad weather. There isn\u2019t a lot to be seen of the landscape and since Whistler isn\u2019t very attracting in the rain, we reach Kamloops one day earlier than planned. On Saturday we arrive at the VIC at the same time as David and Pamela. After having lunch we spent some time together inside Albatros and talk about all kind of aspects of traveling before we start heading back.
\nAs agreed we call at the garage on Monday morning to learn, that the spare part has not yet arrived. We check in at a campground but Ralph doesn\u2019t want to stay more than one night and rather would continue our trip with the broken heating system. Luckily they are already waiting for us on Tuesday and around lunch time we finally are on the road again. Now it even looks as if a planned meeting with Christl, Werner & Schneckerl is possible again. This time we take the fastest route via Merritt, Kamloops and Revelstoke to Lake Louise. There is far less snow compared to December when we drove partly the same way in the other direction. At the Crazy Creek Resort we stop for lunch and dip into the Hot Pool and this time there are 3 trailers at the campground. The buildings at Rogers Pass are still covered with snow pretty high but the roads and the parking lot are cleared. As we turn onto the overflow parking in Lake Louise we can already see \u201cSchneckerl\u201d and are happy to meet Christl & Werner again with more than 3 months delay. We even manage to sit outside in the sun for a couple of hours (our cars were strategically placed as windshields). Together we spend a couple of days on the parking lot and in Lake Louise; we stroll around and over the lake and prepare a high level plan for the next couple of weeks to see where we can meet again. The day before we are planning to continue I see a note in our road atlas: \u201cIcefields Parkway closed to truck traffic over 4,550 kg. Extreme winter weather area.\u201d Does this apply to us as well or is this only for commercial vehicles (as a lot of other restrictions). We talk to a policeman and ask in the VIC and they confirm that this restriction applies to ALL vehicles. We need to bury our dream of driving one of the most scenic highways in Canada\u2019s northern area. We finally agree to bypass the Rocky Mountains via highways 22 and 43 on the eastern side up to Grande Prairie. From there we will hopefully continue as planned. Highway 22 is easy to drive since there isn\u2019t much traffic but with its seemingly endless passages going just straight ahead it is a bit boring as well. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
