In den USA erkennt man den Wechsel von einer Provinz in die n\u00e4chste meistens nur an den Schildern am Stra\u00dfenrand. Nach Kalifornien rein, m\u00fcssen wir aber tats\u00e4chlich an einem Posten anhalten und werden befragt, was f\u00fcr Obst und Gem\u00fcse wir mitf\u00fchren. Da wir von dieser Prozedur schon geh\u00f6rt hatten, haben wir auch nichts an Bord, was kritisch sein k\u00f6nnte und wir k\u00f6nnen problemlos einreisen. In Crescent City steuern wir dann aber erstmal einen Supermarkt an, damit wir unsere Vorr\u00e4te richtig auff\u00fcllen k\u00f6nnen. Am Redwood Forest Informations Center decken wir uns mit Material ein und dann gehen wir auf den Mills Creek Campingplatz, der ein ganzes St\u00fcck abseits der Stra\u00dfe im Wald liegt. Den n\u00e4chsten Tag nutzen wir dann, um einige der Wanderwege mit den gro\u00dfen Zedern am Prairie Creek zu laufen. Die B\u00e4ume sind zum Teil wirklich beeindruckend. Anschlie\u00dfend fahren wir zur\u00fcck nach Crescent City in die B\u00fccherein, wo wir unsere Mails checken. Dann geht es weiter zur\u00fcck nach Oregon und den Oregon H\u00f6hlen. Die letzten 20 km der Strecke sind sehr eng, kurvig, teilweise steil und dadurch auch recht anstrengend. Leider ist es zu sp\u00e4t f\u00fcr eine Besichtigung und so fahren wir ein St\u00fcck zur\u00fcck und finden einen ruhigen Stellplatz an einer kleinen Bucht neben dem Hwy 46. Wir stehen fr\u00fch auf und fahren zum Eingang. Bevor wir jedoch in die H\u00f6hlen d\u00fcrfen, m\u00fcssen unsere Schuhe desinfiziert werden, da wir mit ihnen in anderen H\u00f6hlen waren und die Gefahr besteht das wir Bakterien, die bei den Flederm\u00e4usen eine t\u00f6dliche Krankheit ausl\u00f6sen, einschleppen k\u00f6nnten. Um 10:00h sind wir die einzigen Teilnehmer an der sehr interessanten F\u00fchrung. \u00dcber den Cave Cliff Trail laufen wir zur\u00fcck zum Auto und dann geht es \u00fcber Grand Pass und mehrere Highways weiter bis Mazama Village im Crater Lake Nationalpark. Der Campingplatz dort wurde wegen Feuer und Schnee vorzeitig geschlossen. Nach R\u00fccksprache mit einem Busfahrer bleiben wir trotzdem dort stehen. Im Visitor Center schauen wir uns am n\u00e4chsten Tag erst einen sehr guten Film \u00fcber die Gegend an und fahren dann die Rim Road. Immer wieder bieten sich neue Ausblicke und wir halten an etlichen Aussichtspunkten an. Die Farbe des Sees ist einfach beeindruckend. Am Nordeingang verlassen wir den Nationalpark und fahren weiter bis Bend, wo wir mal wieder Walmart Camping machen. Morgens fahren wir ins Touristb\u00fcro und holen uns Informationen. Anschlie\u00dfend laufen wir ein St\u00fcck durch die Innenstadt und immer am Flu\u00df entlang bis zum Old Mill District, der heute so etwas wie ein Outlet Center ist. Dort findet gerade auf einem gro\u00dfen Gel\u00e4nde ein Musikfest statt. Auf 6-8 B\u00fchnen treten abwechselnd v\u00f6llig unterschiedliche Musiker auf. Das Wetter ist sch\u00f6n, die Stimmung ist gut \u2013 was will man mehr. Die zweite Nacht bei Walmart war nicht so toll. Nachts um 3:00h wurde es laut – es h\u00f6rte sich so an, als w\u00e4re ein Rasenm\u00e4her unterwegs \u2013 und ab 5:00h setzte dann wohl der Berufsverkehr ein. Also nichts wie weg. Da wir gut im Zeitplan sind, und die Heizung mal wieder Mucken macht, wollen wir in Bend zu einem Webasto H\u00e4ndler. Als erstes fahren wir aber bei EarthCruiser vorbei. Wir hatten gestern nach einem Spaziergang eine Visitenkarte am Fenster und wollen uns die Firma mal anschauen. Sie bauen Expeditionsmobile auf Basis eines Fuso. Da uns die beiden Webasto H\u00e4ndler, die wir im Internet gefunden haben, nicht helfen k\u00f6nnen, fahren wir nachmittags nochmals zu EarthCruiser und bekommen dort einen Termin f\u00fcr den n\u00e4chsten Mittag. Nachdem wir in der B\u00fccherei noch einige administrative Sachen erledigt haben, fahren wir raus zum Old Mill District, wo wir noch ein bi\u00dfchen rumlaufen und dann auf dem Parkplatz \u00fcbernachten. Am Morgen haben wir zwar einen gro\u00dfen Zettel \u201eSecurity Warning\u201c an der Windschutzscheibe, aber die Nacht war einigerma\u00dfen ruhig. Unser Heizungsproblem konnte bei EarthCruiser zwar nicht ganz behoben werden, – wir k\u00f6nnen sie immer noch nur mit einem Reset starten – aber immerhin geht sie jetzt nicht innerhalb k\u00fcrzester Zeit wieder von alleine aus. Also machen wir uns wieder auf den Weg. \u00dcber Burns und Buchanan, wo wir in einem kleinen Laden eine indianische Fl\u00f6te erstehen, geht es weiter \u00fcber schnurgeradeaus verlaufende Highways vorbei an riesiegen Getreide- und Rinderfarmen bis wir die Grenze zu Idaho erreichen. Da man hier nur maximal 10 Stunden zur Wiederherstellung der Fahrt\u00fcchtigkeit auf den Parkpl\u00e4tzen an der Autobahn stehen bleiben darf, fahren wir ein St\u00fcck zur\u00fcck nach Oregon und \u00fcbernachten dort. <\/p>\n

\nIn US you usually only realize, that you crossed into a different state through the signposts besides the highways. However, crossing into California means that we actually have to stop at a booth and to declare, what kind of fruit\/vegetables we bring along. Since we were aware of this procedure, we didn\u2019t have anything critical with us and are allowed to move on without any issues. In Crescent City our first stop is at the supermarket and we fill the refrigerator. At the Redwood Forest Information Center we get a couple of brochures and then continue to Mills Creek campground which is quite a bit away from the main street in the middle of a forest. In the morning we drive to Prairie Creek where we hike a few of the trails along the big and really impressive cedars. Once back at the car we drive to Crescent City and check the emails again before we head back into Oregon and towards the Oregon Caves. The last 20 kilometers the road is pretty narrow, winding and sometimes steep and therefore driving is strenuous. Unfortunately we are too late to visit the caves and therefore we drive back to a small clearing just outside the park boundary where we saw a nice place to stay for the night. We rise early in the morning and drive to the caves entrance but before we are allowed to go inside, our shoes need to be disinfected to avoid that we bring the white-nose-disease, which is deadly to the bats, into the cave. For the 10 am tour we are the only participants and found it very interesting. We hike back to the car via the Cave Cliff trail and then continue via Grand Pass and a couple of highways to Manzama Village in Crater Lake National Park. Due to fire and snow the campground is already officially closed. After checking with a bus driver we still stay there for the night. In the morning we drive to the visitor center and watch a very interesting video about the area and then we drive the rim road. Time and again we have stunning views of the lake and we stop at a couple of viewpoints. The color of the lake is incredible. When we reach the north entrance we decide to leave the national park and we drive until we reach Bend, where we stay at the Walmart. The next day leads us to the visitor center where we get some maps and information. We then stroll through downtown and along the river until we reach the Old Mill District, which nowadays is some kind of outlet center. There is a music festival on a big areal at the other side of the river. 6-8 stages have been build and totally different kind of musicians take their turns. The weather is nice, people are in a good mood \u2013 what else do we need? The 2nd night at Walmart wasn\u2019t that good. Around 3 am it got pretty noisy \u2013 it sounded as if someone was mowing the grass \u2013 and from 5 am onwards the rush hour started. We decide it\u2019s time to leave. Since we have problems with our heating again, we want to see a Webasto dealer in Bend. However, our first stop is with EarthCruiser. When we came back from our walk yesterday we found a business card from one of their employees at our car and we are curious to see their expedition campers. Both Webasto dealers that were listed can\u2019t help us and so we drive back to EarthCruiser and make an appointment for the next day. At the library we catch up on some administrative things and then we drive to the Old Mill District again. After a stroll through the area and the shops, we stay on one of their parking lots. In the morning we then find a \u201cSecurity-Warning\u201d at our windscreen but the night was relatively quiet. Although the guys at EarthCruiser where very helpful, they could not fully solve our problem (due to wrong installation) \u2013 we still have to do a reset to start the system \u2013 but at least now it doesn\u2019t automatically shut off after a couple of minutes. Via Burns and Buchanan, where we buy a native Indian flute, we drive on highways that are leading just straight ahead for miles and we pass huge farms until we reach Idaho. Since in Idaho it is only allowed to stay a maximum of 10 hours in the rest areas along the highway \u2013 to regain driving ability – we turn back into Oregon and stay there for the night. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
