Unser erster Tag in El Salvador steht unter keinem guten Stern. Nachdem wir 3,5 Stunden f\u00fcr den Grenz\u00fcbertritt gebraucht haben, wollen wir einen Stellplatz an einem Hotel anfahren. Zuerst kommen wir wegen eines Umzugs von Schulen in einen Stau und dann ist das Hotel geschlossen. Also entscheiden wir uns f\u00fcr den Nationalpark Cerro Verde. Zwei Mal finden wir den richtigen Abzweig nicht, oder k\u00f6nnen ihn wegen tief h\u00e4ngender Kabel nicht benutzen. Dann fahren wir ein St\u00fcck \u00fcber Nebenstrassen, bis wir an einen Punkt gelangen, wo wir keinen Sinn mehr sehen, weiter zu fahren. Stehen bleiben k\u00f6nnen wir auch nicht, weil wir die halbe Strasse versperren w\u00fcrden. Letztlich fahren wir dann doch Richtung K\u00fcste und \u00fcbernachten an einer Tankstelle kurz hinter Sonsonate. Am Morgen fahren wir dann wieder zur\u00fcck Richtung Hochland. Dort hoffen wir auf k\u00fchleres Wetter, denn Ralph macht die Hitze ganz sch\u00f6n zu schaffen. In Joya de Ceren schauen wir uns ein Maya Dorf an, das vor 1.400 Jahren von Vulkanasche versch\u00fcttet wurde. Zehn Geb\u00e4ude wurden wieder rekonstruiert. Die ganze Anlage ist sehr interessant und sicherlich wird hier im Laufe der Zeit noch mehr hinzu kommen. Unseren Stellplatz f\u00fcr die Nacht finden wir dann in Suchitoto auf dem Hof der \u201eSchule\u201c von Schwester Peggy, die uns sehr freundlich begr\u00fc\u00dft. So langsam f\u00e4ngt die Regenzeit an und am Abend gibt es noch ein kr\u00e4ftiges Gewitter. Der Regen hat auch eine Abk\u00fchlung mitgebracht und wir haben gut geschlafen. Zuerst laufen wir zum Aussichtspunkt des Ortes aber es ist leider recht diesig. Anschlie\u00dfend laufen wir noch durch den netten Ort und erledigen ein paar Eink\u00e4ufe. Den Nachmittag verbringt Ralph mit Arbeiten am Auto und ich gehe an unsere Schr\u00e4nke und sortiere einiges aus, was wir als Spende abgeben. \u00dcber schmale Stra\u00dfen geht es dann weiter. Wir haben einen tollen Ausblick auf einen See, aber keine M\u00f6glichkeit zu stoppen, da die Stra\u00dfe zu eng und kurvig ist. An einem Aussichtspunkt machen wir Mittagspause aber hier ist es wieder diesig. Auf der CA1 geraten wir mal wieder in eine Baustelle und m\u00fcssen 30 Minuten warten, ehe wir weiterfahren k\u00f6nnen. Eigentlich wollen wir an der Laguna Alegria \u00fcbernachten aber kurz hinter Berlin \u2013 ja, es gibt hier wirklich einen Ort, der so hei\u00dft \u2013 m\u00fcssten wir eine steile Schotterstrecke hochfahren, die selbst Ralph nicht ganz geheuer ist. Auf der Teerstrasse stehen wir dann jedoch bald vor einem Tor und kommen nicht weiter. Da es schon dunkel wird, fragen wir am Restaurant Santa Fermina in Berlin, ob wir auf dem Parkplatz stehen bleiben k\u00f6nnen. W\u00e4hrend wir auf der Terrasse mit herrlichem Ausblick ein Abendessen geniessen, beobachten wir eine Gruppe Jugendlicher, die eine \u00dcberraschungsparty anl\u00e4\u00dflich eines 16. Geburtstages vorbereiten. Sicherlich stammen sie nicht aus armen Verh\u00e4ltnissen aber auch hier sind die Teenies nicht anders als in Europa; nur die Musik ist anders. Nachts war es wieder k\u00fchl und wir sind fr\u00fch unterwegs. Schon um 11:40h sind wir in Pasaquia, wo wir uns mit Herma & Manni und Marion & Bernd f\u00fcr die Weiterfahrt durch Honduras und Nicaragua verabredet haben. Wir bereiten noch die n\u00f6tigen Kopien f\u00fcr die n\u00e4chsten Grenz\u00fcbertritte vor und gehen fr\u00fch ins Bett.<\/p>\n

English Version (no translation of German text)<\/strong><\/p>\n

Our 1st day in El Salvador is not one of our best. The border crossing took us 3.5 hrs and we plan to stay at a hotel. On the way we get stuck in traffic jam due to a school parade and once we arrive at the hotel, we see a sign that the hotel is closed. We then decide to look for a place at NP Cerro Verde. Twice we miss a side street or we can\u2019t take it due to low hanging cables. On another side road we reach a point where it doesn\u2019t make sense to continue but we can\u2019t stay there either since we would block half of the road. Finally we drive south towards the coast and find a place at a gas station shortly after Sonsonate. In the morning we drive back north, hoping that the climate is cooler since Ralph doesn\u2019t take the heat that well. In Joya de Ceren we stop to see an old Maya dwelling that has been covered with ashes from a volcano eruption 1,400 years ago. Ten buildings have been reconstructed. The whole area is very interesting and I\u2019m sure that they will continue to increase the things to be seen in the future. In Suchitoto we finally find a place for the night at \u201cPeggy\u2019s School\u201d. Sister Peggy gives us a warm welcome and we meet a young German couple who live in El Salvador since three years. The rainy season is slowly approaching and we get a thunderstorm in the evening. The rain cooled down the air and we slept well. Our first trip in the morning leads to a viewpoint but it is pretty misty and not much to be seen. We continue through the small but nice town and do a bit of shopping. In the afternoon Ralph does a bit of maintenance on the car and I start sorting through our cupboards and pack a few things that we will give as a donation to Sister Peggy. Our trip continues via small streets. We have a beautiful view on a lake but no chance to stop since the street is very narrow and winding. When we stop for lunch at a viewpoint it is misty again. On CA-1 we get into major road work again and have to wait 30 minutes before we can move on. Initially we wanted to spend the night at Laguna Alegria but shortly after Berlin \u2013 yes, there really is a town with this name \u2013 our GPS tells us to take a steep gravel road that even Ralph doesn\u2019t want to take. On the paved road we end at a gate where we can\u2019t continue. Since it is already getting dark, we stop at restaurant Santa Fermina in Berlin and ask if we can stay for the night. While we have dinner on the terrace with a beautiful view we watch teenies preparing a surprise party for a 16th<\/sup> birthday. Surely they are not from poor families but they are the same as the Europeans their age; only the music is different. The night was cool again and we are off early. At 11:40h am we already reach Pasaquia where we agreed to meet with Herma & Manni and Marion & Bernd to drive through Honduras and Nicaragua together.
