\nNachdem wir die Grenze \u00fcberquert haben, fahren wir z\u00fcgig weiter Richtung El Calafate. An der Kreuzung der alten RP7 und der RN40 machen wir einen Stopp. Dabei ist es so windig, dass wir die T\u00fcren kaum aufbekommen. Zwei Radfahrer sprechen uns an, ob wir sie mitnehmen k\u00f6nnen. Sie tun uns bei dem Wetter zwar leid, aber, mal ganz davon abgesehen, dass wir nur 2 Sitze im F\u00fchrerhaus haben, wohin mit den beiden Fahrr\u00e4dern? Kurze Zeit sp\u00e4ter werden sie dann aber mitgenommen. Wir entscheiden uns, nicht die Abk\u00fcrzung \u00fcber die alte RP7 zu fahren. Wir wurden mehrfach gewarnt, dass sie in sehr schlechtem Zustand ist und damit haben wir ja schon unsere Erfahrung auf dem Weg zum versteinerten Wald gesammelt. Kurz vor El Calafate halten wir nochmal an einem Aussichtspunkt. Der Blick auf den Lago Argentino mit seinem unnat\u00fcrlich wirkenden t\u00fcrkisfarbigen Wasser ist beeindruckend. Unser Lager schlagen wir dann am Beginn des Stadtzentrums auf dem Parkplatz der ehemaligen Tourist Information auf. Wir bleiben hier nicht alleine. Als wir vom Einkaufen zur\u00fcckkommen, stehen zwei junge S\u00fcdtiroler, Maximilian & Stefanie, neben uns und wir tauschen noch eine ganze Weile Informationen aus. Auch am Morgen quatschen wir noch mit den beiden, als Francine & Peter aus Holland mit ihrer Lazy Sue, einem alte Feuerwehrwagen MB 911, ankommen. Die S\u00fcdtiroler fahren und das Quatschen geht mit den Holl\u00e4ndern weiter. Irgendwann schaffen wir es dann tats\u00e4chlich, unsere W\u00e4sche im Waschsalon abzugeben. Als N\u00e4chstes wollen wir zur Tourist Information, um uns einen Stadtplan und Informationen \u00fcber den Ort zu holen. Daf\u00fcr laufen wir wieder ein St\u00fcck den Berg hoch an den Ortseingang. Wie sich sp\u00e4ter rausstellt, h\u00e4tten wir die Unterlagen auch unten im Ort bekommen k\u00f6nnen. Zur Mittagspause laufen wir ins Caf\u00e9 Don Luis. Ralph ist inzwischen hungrig und etwas stinkig, weil er was \u201eRichtiges\u201c will. Auf dem Weg zur\u00fcck gehen wir beim B\u00fcro des Tour Veranstalters Southern Spirit vorbei. Bis das B\u00fcro um 16:00h aufmachen soll, sind es noch 10 Minuten. Da das Wetter sch\u00f6n ist, setzen wir uns auf die Bank und warten. Als um 16:15h noch immer keiner aufgetaucht ist, notiere ich mir die WhatsApp Nummer und schicke eine Nachricht. So gegen 16:25h bekomme ich dann eine Antwort. Das Abendessen wollen wir heute ausw\u00e4rts einnehmen (damit Ralph was \u201eRichtiges\u201c bekommt). Direkt gegen\u00fcber vom Parkplatz ist das Restaurant \u201eLa Tablita\u201c, allerdings sind die Preise nicht ohne. Also laufen wir in die Stadt. Die Preise werden aber nicht besser; eher schlimmer. Als wir uns dann gegen 20:00h endlich entschlie\u00dfen, in ein Restaurant zu gehen, wird uns gesagt, dass alle Tische belegt sind und die Wartezeit ca. 45 Minuten betr\u00e4gt. Das ist uns zu sp\u00e4t uns so landen wir dann im \u201eLa Lechuza\u201c. Auf dem Weg zur\u00fcck zum Auto laufen wir noch durch die Passage mit den Kunsthandwerkern. Wir stehen erst sp\u00e4t auf und laufen dann nochmal zum B\u00fcro von Southern Spirit und buchen f\u00fcr Sonntag eine ganzt\u00e4gige Bootstour in den Regenwald und zum Perito Moreno Gletscher. Da wir f\u00fcr die Tour schon um 9:15h am Hafen in Punta Banderas, ca. 50 km von El Calafate entfernt, sein m\u00fcssen, fahren wir noch direkt dort hin und \u00fcbernachten direkt am Pier. Der Wecker schellt um 7:30h und um 9:15h checken wir ein. Mit dem Boot fahren wir zuerst zur Bahia Torro. Dort laufen wir einen ca. 700 Meter langen Trail durch den Regenwald zu einem Wasserfall. Anschlie\u00dfend gibt es auf dem Boot ein kleines Fr\u00fchst\u00fcck (Kaffee & Croissant) und wir fahren weiter zum n\u00e4chsten Anlegepunkt am Cerro Negro. Dort laufen wir wieder durch den Regenwald. Diesmal ist die Strecke ca. 1000 Meter und der Weg ist teilweise sehr feucht und schlammig. Das Ziel ist ein Gletscher, der nicht in einen See m\u00fcndet, sondern oben auf einer Bergkuppe endet und als Wasserfall ins Tal kommt. Den Abschluss der Tour bildet dann der Perito Moreno Gletscher. Zuerst treiben wir ca. 20-30 Minuten ca. 300 Meter vor der 2,5 km langen und 60-100 Meter hohen Gletscherwand (insgesamt hat die Gletscherzunge eine Breite von fast 5 km) und dann werden wir an Land abgesetzt und haben knapp 2 Stunden Zeit, um uns den Gletscher von den verschiedenen Aussichtsterrassen anzusehen. Wir hoffen, den Gletscher kalben zu sehen, aber den Gefallen tut er uns nicht. Gegen 17:00h sind wir wieder zur\u00fcck am Auto. Alles in allem fanden wir die Tour gelungen und den Preis (ARS 4.000 pP) wert. Die Hoffnung stirbt ja bekanntlich zuletzt. Daher planen wir, morgen nochmal zu den Aussichtsterrassen zu fahren um den Gletscher kalben zu sehen. Wir fahren vom Hafen noch bis kurz vor den Eingang zum Nationalpark und \u00fcbernachten auf einem Feld ein St\u00fcck abseits von der Stra\u00dfe. Wieder schmei\u00dft uns der Wecker raus, denn wir wollen vor den Tour Bussen im Park sein. Das Wetter ist sch\u00f6n und verspricht gute Fotos. Da die Cafeteria noch geschlossen ist, gibt es im Auto ein schnelles Fr\u00fchst\u00fcck und dann macht Ralph sich auf den Weg. Ich mache erst noch klar Schiff im Albatros. Als ich dann auch zu den Terrassen gehe, hat es sich deutlich zugezogen. Ralph hat auch schon wieder zusammengepackt. Das St\u00fcck, das wir gestern beobachtet hatten, weil wir dachten es kalbt, war morgens schon abgebrochen. Ralph hat leider nur 1 x das Kalben mitbekommen. Das war aber so weit weg, dass keine gescheiten Fotos bei rausgekommen sind. Schade, aber man kann schlie\u00dflich nicht alles haben. Schon gegen Mittag fahren wir wieder Richtung Stadt. Diesmal stellen wir uns an den Strand direkt hinter dem Reservat Laguna Nimez. Nach dem Fr\u00fchst\u00fcck sortieren wir noch Steine und Prospekte und gegen 14:00h gehen wir dann in das Reservat. Viele bzw. besondere V\u00f6gel sehen wir nicht, aber der Weg durch das Vogelgebiet ist ein sch\u00f6ner Spaziergang. Bevor wir weiter Richtung El Chalt\u00e9n fahren, wollen wir uns heute nochmal ein Abendessen g\u00f6nnen. Inzwischen haben wir erfahren, dass das \u201eLa Tablita\u201c ein empfehlenswertes Restaurant ist. Also fahren wir wieder zur alten Tourist Information, wo auch schon der MB aus Darmstadt steht, den wir schon in Cerro Sombrero und in Ushuaia getroffen hatten, und sp\u00e4ter kommen dann auch Lazy Sue mit Besatzung wieder. Gegen 19:00h gehen wir \u00fcber die Stra\u00dfe zum Essen. Das Restaurant ist sehr gro\u00df (ca. 100-150 Personen) und gegen 20:00h sind alle Tische belegt. Das Essen ist sehr gut, aber auch f\u00fcr argentinische Verh\u00e4ltnisse recht teuer. G\u00fcnstiger wird es wohl, wenn man mit 4 Personen essen geht und sich dann z. B. ein Beefsteak mit Beilagen teilt. Da ich nicht so der gro\u00dfe Fleischesser bin, hat Ralph sich \u201enur\u201c ein halbes Beefsteak bestellt. Das war ein Fleischst\u00fcck von bestimmt 400 gr. Bevor wir uns am n\u00e4chsten Tag endg\u00fcltig von El Calafate verabschieden, fahren wir noch zur historischen St\u00e4tte Punta Walichu. Hier kann man Felsmalereien besichtigen. Leider sind die Originale zum Teil verblasst, zerkratzt oder zerst\u00f6rt. Zur Verdeutlichung gibt es aber einige Replikate (auch als solche deutlich markiert). Viele Zeichnungen erinnern uns an solche, die wir schon in Afrika und Australien gesehen haben. F\u00fcr die Nacht fahren wir an das Nordufer des Lago Argentino.<\/p>\n

English Version (no translation of German text)<\/strong>
\nAfter crossing the border, we head towards El Calafate. When we stop at the junction between RP7 and RN40, the wind is so strong, we can\u2019t open our doors. Two bicycle riders ask, if we can give them a lift, but we only have two seats in the driver cabin and where would we store the bicycles? Shortly thereafter we see, that someone picks them up. We decide to not take the shortcut via old RP7. Multiple time we were told that the road is in bad condition and we\u2019ve had our experience with this when driving to the petrified forest. Shortly before we reach El Calafate we stop at a viewpoint. The view over Lago Argentino with the unnatural turquoise colored water is impressive. We stop for the night at the parking of the old visitor center but won\u2019t be alone for long. When coming back from a short shopping trip, a young couple, Stefanie & Maximilian from South Tyrol, have joined us and we exchange information for quite a while. In the morning we\u2019re chatting again, when Francine & Peter from Netherlands with their Lazy Sue, an old fire brigade MB 911 truck, turn in. Stefanie & Maximilian move on and we continue chatting with the Dutch. At some point we actually manage to bring our clothes to the laundry. Our next stop is at the tourist information center to get a map and some information about the city. For this we walk back, up the hill. Later on, we\u2019ll find out that we could have received the same information in downtown. For lunch we head to Caf\u00e9 Don Luis. Ralph is meanwhile hungry and a bit moody, since he wants some \u201creal\u201d food. On the way back we stop at the Southern Spirit tour office. It\u2019s only 10 minutes until they\u2019ll re-open at 4pm. Since the weather is nice, we sit on the bench and wait. At 4:15pm the office is still closed and no one in sight. I note down their WhatsApp number and send them a message. They come back with the answer around 4:25pm. We want to treat ourselves to a diner at a restaurant (so Ralph gets some \u201creal\u201d food) and check the menu of \u201cLa Tablita\u201d just on the other side of the parking but the prices look high. So, we walk into town, to find out, that the prices there are even higher. When we finally agree on a restaurant, it\u2019s nearly 8pm, we\u2019re told, that the restaurant is full and the waiting time currently is approx. 45 minutes. This is too late for our liking and we finally end up in \u201cLa Lechuza\u201d. On our way back we visit the passage with the artisans. In the morning we get up late and then walk to the Southern Spirit office again. There we book a full-day boat trip to the rain forest and glacier Perito Moreno. Since we have to be at the harbor in Punta Banderas, approx. 50 km from El Calafate, at 9:15h the next morning, we already drive there and spend the night directly at the pier. At 7:30am the alarm wakes us and at 9:15am we check in. The first stop of the boat is at Bahia Torro, where we walk an approx. 700-meter-long trail through the rain forest. The trail ends at a nice waterfall. Back on the boat we get a small breakfast (coffee & croissant) and move on to the next stop which is at Cerro Negro. This trail again leads through rain forest and ends at a glacier, that doesn\u2019t melt into a lake but is sitting on top of a mountain and cascading down into the valley. The final stop and the highlight of the tour is the Perito Moreno glacier. For approx. 20-30 minutes we cruise in front of the 60 to 100-meter-high and 2,5 km wide (in total the glacier has a front of nearly 5 km) glacier with a distance of approx. 300 meters and then we get off the boat and have nearly 2 hrs time to visit the balconies. Of course, we hope to see the glacier calving, but we\u2019re not lucky. Around 5pm we\u2019re back at our car. All in all, we think this was a great tour and well worth the price (ARS 4000 per person). There is a German saying, that hope dies last. Therefore, we plan to visit the glacier again the following day. In order to shorten driving time, we drive to an open field besides the road and close to the park entrance. Again, the alarm wakes us since we want to be in the park prior to all the tour buses. The weather is nice. Since the cafeteria is still closed, we have a quick breakfast in the car and then Ralph already moves to the balconies. I first wash the dishes and get Albatros clean. When I finally go to the balconies, it\u2019s become pretty cloudy and Ralph is already on his way back. The piece of glacier, we hoped to calve yesterday, was already gone in the morning. He did see one calving but it was too far away to get good pictures. What a shame, but we can\u2019t have everything. It\u2019s only lunch time when we drive back to town. We find a nice place at the beach directly behind the Reserve Laguna Nimez. After breakfast Ralph goes through all the stones and the brochures he collected and around 2pm we enter the reserve. We don\u2019t see many or very specific birds, but the trail is a nice walk. Meanwhile we found out, that \u201cLa Tablita\u201d is a recommended restaurant. Therefore, we drive back to the parking of the old tourist information. The Mercedes Benz from Darmstadt, that we already saw in Cerro Sombrero and Ushuaia is already there and later on Lazy Sue and team arrive as well. Around 7pm we cross the street for diner. The restaurant is pretty big (approx. 100-150 seatings) and around 8pm all tables are occupied. The food was pretty good but expensive for Argentina. It probably is cheaper, when you are 4 people and share e.g. a beefsteak and side dishes. Since I\u2019m not the big meat-eater, Ralph order a half beefsteak and this was at least 400 grams. Before we finally leave El Calafate, we visit the historical site Punta Walichu. Here you can see rock\/cave paintings. Unfortunately, some of the originals are destroyed or already faded. To get a good impression, they display replicas (clearly signed as such). Most of the paintings remind us of others we\u2019ve seen in Africa or Australia.
