Auf dem Weg in den Norden ist die Ruta 40 wieder teilweise in einem schlechten Zustand und hat \u00fcble Schlagl\u00f6cher. Kurz vor Baja Caracoles zieht der Motor nicht mehr richtig. Nach einer Pause scheint erst alles ok, aber dann wird es wieder schlimmer. Wir retten uns bis Baja Caracoles. Wir \u00fcbernachten an einem Feld hinter dem Ort und Ralph tauscht noch den SEPAR Filter aus. Unser n\u00e4chstes Ziel sind die \u201eCuevas de los Manos\u201c. Ein St\u00fcck vorher, sollte aber der Abzweig zum Valle Chacabucco sein, wo wir anschlie\u00dfend hinwollen. Damit wir sp\u00e4ter nicht unn\u00fctz mehrere Kilometer umsonst zur\u00fcckfahren, drehen wir jetzt nochmal um und schauen. An der Stelle, wo in Maps.me der Abzweig sein soll, sehen wir aber nur eine Fahrspur durch die Wildnis, die schon wieder ziemlich zugewachsen ist. Also werden wir uns eine andere Route einfallen lassen m\u00fcssen. Auch zu den Cuevas haben wir zwei M\u00f6glichkeiten. Wir entscheiden uns f\u00fcr den zweiten Abzweig, der weniger Schotterstra\u00dfe hat. Daf\u00fcr geht die Stra\u00dfe teilweise steil bergauf und bergab. Ein PKW vor uns gibt an der ersten Abfahrt auf, da sie schon ins Rutschen gekommen sind. Mit unserm 4×4 sollte das aber kein Problem sein. Die Aussicht auf den Canyon Pinturas entsch\u00e4digt uns f\u00fcr die Qu\u00e4lerei. Da wir keine Hektik wollen, lassen wir die n\u00e4chste F\u00fchrung ausfallen und nehmen erst die \u00fcbern\u00e4chste F\u00fchrung. In der Zwischenzeit quatschen wir noch mit zwei jungen Deutschen, die auf der Walz sind. Als noch zwei kleiner Gruppen ankommen, ist die F\u00fchrung zu 50% deutsch. Die F\u00fchrerin macht uns auf Besonderheiten aufmerksam und erkl\u00e4rt, wie das Alter der unterschiedlichen \u201eH\u00e4nde\u201c bestimmt wurde. Als wir wieder zur\u00fcck auf der Hauptstra\u00dfe sind, macht Albatros wieder mucken. Mit M\u00fche und Not schaffen wir es bis Porito Moreno. Daf\u00fcr k\u00f6nnen wir die tolle Landschaft besser genie\u00dfen. Wir \u00fcbernachten an einem Platz ein St\u00fcck hinter einer ziemlich trockenen Lagune und haben durch B\u00fcsche und B\u00e4ume ein bisschen Windschutz. Am n\u00e4chsten Tag tauscht Ralph die Dieselfilter aus. Das war wohl auch der Grund f\u00fcr die Motorprobleme. Wir versuchen noch, an zwei Stellen ins Internet zu kommen, sind aber nicht erfolgreich. So bleiben wir noch eine Nacht stehen. Weiter geht es zum Lago Buenos Aires. Die Aussicht auf den See ist phantastisch. Der Ort ist, wie so viele, au\u00dferhalb des Zentrums eher unscheinbar und der Spaziergang zum Aussichtspunkt oberhalb des Ortes hat sich nicht wirklich gelohnt. In der N\u00e4he der Plaza finden wir dann immerhin einen halbwegs Internetzugang und k\u00f6nnen noch einen Blog hochladen. F\u00fcr die Nacht fahren wir auf die andere Seite des Platzes. Um wenigstens ein St\u00fcck durch das Valle Chacabucco fahren zu k\u00f6nnen, folgen wir jetzt der Ruta 41 entlang der Grenze zu Chile. Es gibt auf dieser Strecke einige interessante Punkte, die markiert sind. In der Tourist Information haben wir eine Beschreibung bekommen und wir halten h\u00e4ufiger an. Gegen Ende, bei KM 44, soll es einen 300 Meter langen Seitenweg zu einem Wasserfall geben. Ich mache Ralph darauf aufmerksam und er dreht und biegt ab. Allerdings sehen wir nicht, wo der Weg endet und so folgt Ralph den Spuren deutlich weiter. Ich frage mich schon, wie wir da wieder rauskommen und verfluche mich im Stillen, dass ich ihm den Hinweis gegeben habe. Irgendwann geht es nicht mehr weiter und wir stehen irgendwo im Nirgendwo. Ralph l\u00e4uft vor zum Wasserfall, den wir h\u00f6hen, kommt aber kurze Zeit sp\u00e4ter zur\u00fcck und sagt, dass es sich nicht lohnt.\u00a0 Dann fahren wir halt wieder zur\u00fcck aber Albatros gibt pl\u00f6tzlich keinen Mucks von sich. Na toll! Ralph \u00fcberpr\u00fcft die Spannung und als er das Batteriefach aufmacht, geht pl\u00f6tzlich im Fahrerhaus das Autoradio an. Danach springt der Mog ohne Probleme an und wir sehen zu, dass wir zur\u00fcck zur Stra\u00dfe kommen. Weiter geht es durch eine Landschaft mit bunten Bergen in ausgefallenen Formationen und Seen. F\u00fcr die Nacht fahren wir 4 KM am Abzweig zur Grenzstation vorbei und finden einen Platz, der etwas Windschutz bietet. Hier stellt Ralph dann fest, dass die Abdeckung unseres Batteriefachs weg ist. Am n\u00e4chsten Tag geht es nach einem ausgiebigen Fr\u00fchst\u00fcck, frische Lebensmittel m\u00fcssen weg, zum Grenz\u00fcbergang Paso Raballos. Der Posten ist nur mit einer Person besetzt und wir m\u00fcssen drau\u00dfen warten, bis er das Paar vor uns abgefertigt hat. Hier geht alles noch per Hand und unsere Ausreise und die Ausfuhr von Albatros wird in entsprechende B\u00fccher eingetragen. Wir m\u00fcssen noch ein paar Kilometer fahren, bis wir den chilenischen Grenzposten erreichen.<\/p>\n

English Version (no translation of German text)<\/strong><\/p>\n

On our way north Ruta 40 is partially in a bad condition and has pretty bad potholes. Shortly before we reach Baja Caracoles the motor loses power. After a break it seems to be ok again but then it gets even worse. We just manage to reach Baja Caracoles where we spend the night at a field behind the \u201ctown\u201d and Ralph changes the SEPAR filter. Our next destination is \u201cCuevas de los Manos\u201d. A couple of km earlier there should be an intersection with a road leading to Valle Chacabucco, that we want to take after visiting the caves. We realize that we didn\u2019t see any intersection and in order to not drive too many km later on, we turn around now and check. We monitor on maps.me and then see a track that obviously hasn\u2019t been used for a while and is already covered with bushes. So we need to take another route. To get to the caves there are two options. We take the second access road, which has less gravel road. However, the road is partially pretty steep. A car driving ahead of us has already given up, since they were losing traction on the first descend. With 4×4 this should not be an issue. The great view on Canyon Pinturas is a nice compensation for the bad road. Since we don\u2019t want to have hectic, we skip the next guided tour and take the later one. In the meantime, we chat with two young Germans. Two more small groups arrive and our tour finally is 50% German. The guide provides very good explanation about the process to determine the age of various paintings and she highlights some specifics. Prior to driving back to Ruta 40 we make a short detour to the old airport, from where we have an incredible view into Canyon Pinturas. And then we meet \u201cBalu\u201d and his owners. After a short exchange of information, we move on. Once we are back on the main road, Albatros has trouble again. We just manage to reach Porito Moreno. However, since we are going slowly, we have more time to devour the landscape with the colorful mountains. We spend the night at a site behind a nearly dried out laguna and some bushes and trees as wind cover. In the morning Ralph changes the diesel filters. Obviously, they were the reason for the problems with the engine. WE try to get internet access at two different places, but are not successful. We decide to stay another night and then continue towards Lago Buenos Aires in the morning. The road leads along the lake and has great views. Los Antiguos is, as so many other towns, not really appealing once you leave the main roads and the hike to the view point above town wasn\u2019t worth the effort. At the plaza we find a good internet spot and manage to upload one more post in our blog. For the night we just drive to the other side of the plaza. In order to at least partially drive through Valle Chacabucco, we follow Ruta 41 along the Chilean border in the morning. There are a few interesting points along the route which are highlighted and we got a description at the tourist office. So, we stop a few times. Around km 44 there is supposed to be a 300 m long side track leading to a waterfall. I point this out to Ralph and he turns around and enters the track. However, we don\u2019t see where the track ends and Ralph drives for sure quite a bit more than 300 m. I already wonder, how we\u2019ll get out of this again and curse myself that I pointed this out to Ralph. At some point we can\u2019t drive any further and are somewhere in the nowhere. Ralph walks to check the waterfall, which we can hear but not see from this point but says it\u2019s not really worth the drive. When we want to turn back, Albatros doesn\u2019t start \u2013 no noise \u2013 nothing \u2013 nada. How great!!! Ralph checks the voltage and when he opens the battery compartment, all of a sudden, the radio turns on. But then Albatros starts without any issues and we make sure we get back to the road. We continue through a landscape with colorful mountains, strange formations and beautiful lakes. For the night we ignore the junction towards the border and drive another 4 km, where we find a site with a bit of wind cover. However, Ralph notices that we lost the cover of our battery compartment. After an extended breakfast, all fresh food needs to be eaten, we drive to the Paso Raballos. The post is only maned with one person and we need to wait outside the hut until he has dealt with another couple. Everything is done manually and our emigration and the exit of Albatros is noted in respective books.
