Da wir inzwischen den Ablauf der Grenz\u00fcbertritte nach Chile kennen, habe ich die entsprechenden Formulare schon ausgef\u00fcllt. Auch auf chilenischer Seite ist der Posten mit nur einer Person besetzt. Allerdings m\u00fcssen wir hier andere Formulare ausf\u00fcllen. Bis wir fertig sind, stehen dann auch schon ein paar Leute Schlange, die ausreisen wollen. Da die Stra\u00dfe hier nur einspurig ist, versperren wir uns gegenseitig den Weg. Der Grenzbeamte fragt mich nur, ob ich welche von den verbotenen Lebensmitteln habe, eine Kontrolle findet aber nicht statt; vielleicht weil gerade so viel los ist. Jetzt fahren wir auf der Stra\u00dfe X-83. Sie ist zwar sehr kurvig, aber am Anfang noch recht gut zu fahren. Mit der Zeit wird sie aber immer mehr zur Wellblechpiste und wir kriechen teilweise mit 20km\/h durch die Gegend. Daf\u00fcr ist die Landschaft sehr abwechslungsreich und sehenswert. Nur der Rio Chacabucco und die Lagunen, auf denen es viele Flamingos geben soll, lassen ein bisschen zu w\u00fcnschen \u00fcbrig. Als wir einen Tramper mitnehmen, erfahren wir auch warum das so ist. Es gab im letzten Jahr wohl sehr wenig Schnee und dadurch gibt es dieses Jahr sehr wenig Wasser. Zwei gro\u00dfe Lagunen sind wohl sogar komplett ausgetrocknet. Das ist auch der Grund, dass so wenige Flamingos zu sehen sind. Schade, auf die hatten wir uns gefreut. Gegen 17h kommen wir dann auf die Ruta 7, die ber\u00fchmte Careterra Austral. Unser erster Eindruck von ihr ist nicht sehr gut und wir suchen uns schon nach ein paar Kilometern einen Stellplatz. Der ist dann ca. 1,5 km von der Stra\u00dfe entfernt in der N\u00e4he des Flusses. Auch am n\u00e4chsten Tag wird die Stra\u00dfe nicht besser. Entsch\u00e4digt werden wir aber mit tollen Ausblicken auf den Rio Baker und einige Seen. Dort wo der Rio Baker und der Rio Nef zusammenflie\u00dfen, laufen wir nat\u00fcrlich ein St\u00fcck, um uns das beeindruckende Schauspiel anzusehen. Man sieht an der Wasserfarbe sofort, dass die beiden Fl\u00fcsse unterschiedliche Urspr\u00fcnge haben und wir sind mal wieder von der Natur begeistert. Nach einem kurzen Einkaufsstopp geht es weiter und als wir an einer Br\u00fccke Mittagspause machen, stehen auf einmal Steffi und Max aus S\u00fcdtirol am Auto. Wir hatten die beiden ja schon in El Calafate kurz getroffen. Nachdem wir eine Weile quatschen und feststellen, dass wir das gleiche Ziel haben, verabreden wir uns f\u00fcr 17 Uhr an der Tourist Information in Rio Tranquilo. Als erstes stehen wir aber ca. 15-20 Minuten an einer Baustelle. Hier wird gerade die Piste gew\u00e4ssert. Dann sehen wir einen Radfahrer, der mitten auf der Stra\u00dfe sein Rad repariert. Ralph h\u00e4lt an und fragt ob wir helfen k\u00f6nnen. Das ist tats\u00e4chlich der Fall, da ihm ein Schraubenschl\u00fcssel fehlt, den wir haben. Es h\u00e4lt dann auch noch ein Chilene an, der sehr gut deutsch spricht und hilft bei der Kommunikation. Er sagt uns dann auch, dass wir die geplante Tour zu den Marmorh\u00f6hlen nicht in Rio Tranquilo sondern 5 km vorher in Puerto Marmol machen sollen. Bis wir dann einen Stellplatz am Strand gefunden und am Tourist B\u00fcro sind, ist es schon nach 17 Uhr. Steffi und Max kommen aber auch gerade erst an. Die beiden fahren dann nochmal zu dem Tour Anbieter in Puerto Marmol zur\u00fcck und kl\u00e4ren die Modalit\u00e4ten f\u00fcr unsere Tour. Anschlie\u00dfend gehen wir noch zusammen essen. Da wir schon die erste Tour um 9h machen wollen, werden wir durch den Wecker geweckt. Ralph holt Steffi und Max zum Fr\u00fchst\u00fcck in den Unimog und dann fahren wir los. Die Zufahrt Puerto Marmol ist extrem steil und kurvig. Die F\u00fchrer erkl\u00e4ren uns, dass das Boot f\u00fcr 6 Personen geeignet ist und insgesamt CLP 60.000 f\u00fcr die Tour kostet. Sie fragen, ob wir noch auf 2 weitere Personen warten oder ob wir CLP 15.000 (ca. \u20ac 17,50) pro Person zahlen wollen. Als nach ca. 15 Minuten keine weiteren Interessenten gekommen sind, fahren wir alleine los und bereuen das sp\u00e4ter nicht, denn wir k\u00f6nnen die Pl\u00e4tze im Boot wechseln und gut in alle Richtungen fotografieren. Die Anfahrt \u00fcber den See geht relativ schnell, ist aber durch den Fahrtwind auch recht frisch. An den H\u00f6hlen herrscht schon reger Andrang und wir m\u00fcssen ein paar Minuten warten, ehe wir in die erste reinfahren k\u00f6nnen und dann sind wir sprachlos (und das will ja bei mir bekanntlich was hei\u00dfen). Die Marmorierung und Farbe der Berge und des Wassers sind unbeschreiblich. Immer wieder erschlie\u00dfen sich uns neue Ausblicke. Laut unseren F\u00fchrern haben wir einen Tag mit super Wetter erwischt. Davon gibt es nur 3-4 pro Jahr. Sie entdecken bei dem Licht immer wieder neue Motive, machen uns darauf aufmerksam und z\u00fccken selber ihre Handys und bestaunen die Fotos. Gegen 11 Uhr sind wir zur\u00fcck, k\u00f6nnen aber nicht rausfahren, eine defekte Maschine auf der Zufahrt steht und so gro\u00dfe Fahrzeuge wie wir nicht vorbeikommen. Also kochen wir noch einen Kaffee und fahren gegen 14 Uhr wieder an den Strand nach Rio Tranquilo. Steffi und Max leisten uns noch eine Weile Gesellschaft, denn wir wissen, dass die Stra\u00dfe ein St\u00fcck weiter zwischen 13 Uhr und 17 Uhr wegen Bauarbeiten gesperrt ist, und machen sich gegen 17 Uhr auf den Weg. Wir bleiben noch eine Nacht stehen, denn wir haben beschlossen, dass wir erstmal genug schlechte Stra\u00dfen gefahren sind und der Careterra Austral nicht weiter folgen werden. Also brechen wir am n\u00e4chsten Morgen Richtung Los Antiguos auf. Daf\u00fcr fahren wir zuerst ca. 50 KM die Careterra Austral zur\u00fcck und biegen dann ab auf die 265-CH, die \u00fcberwiegend am Lago General Carrera entlangf\u00fchrt. Das erste St\u00fcck dieser Stra\u00dfe ist gerade frisch gemacht und l\u00e4sst sich sehr gut fahren. Die letzten 30 bis 50 km sind aber sehr schlecht. Gef\u00fchlt ging es auf dem ganzen St\u00fcck 100 Mal bergauf und bergab und war daher f\u00fcr Ralph sehr anstrengend. Entlohnt wurden wir daf\u00fcr aber mit immer wieder tollen Ausblicken auf den See und die Berge. In Chile Chico machen wir noch einen kurzen Einkaufsstopp und dann geht es wieder zur Grenze. Auf chilenischer Seite geht es relativ z\u00fcgig, aber auf der argentinischen Seite, stehen die Leute bis drau\u00dfen auf der Stra\u00dfe Schlange. Abends merken wir, dass unsere Druckluftleitung undicht und die Halterung des Abwassertanks an einer Stelle gerissen ist.<\/p>\n

Since we\u2019re meanwhile familiar with the process at the Chilean borders, I already completed the respective forms. On Chilean side there is only one person, too. However, he needs different forms. By the time we\u2019re done completing them, there is a queue of people who want to leave Chile. As the road has only one lane, it is blocked for the others on both sides. The officer only asks if we have any of the forbidden stuff but there is no check of the car; probably because there are too many people waiting. We\u2019re now on X-83, which initially is relatively good to drive, although it is pretty winding. Over time it turns into really bad washboard and sometimes we can only drive 20 km\/h. On the other side, the landscape is very nice. Only Rio Chacabucco and the lagoons, where we\u2019re supposed to see a lot of flamingoes, are a bit disappointing. At some point we pick up a camper and he can explain, why this is the case. Obviously, there wasn\u2019t much snow last year and now they are lacking the water. Two big lagoons are completely dry. This is the reason, why we don\u2019t see any flamingoes. Around 5 pm we reach Ruta 7, the famous Careterra Austral. Our first impression isn\u2019t too good and we soon start looking for a site for the night. We find it about 1.5 km away from the road and close to the river. When we move on in the morning the road doesn\u2019t get much better. However, we are awarded with beautiful views of Rio Baker and some smaller lakes. We go for a short walk along the trail to see the impressive view of Rio Baker and Rio Nef meeting. The color of the water immediately makes us see, that the two rivers have different origins and, once again, we are impressed by nature. After a short shopping stop, we\u2019re glad we find a shop at all, we continue. While we stop for a lunch break Steffi & Max from South Tyrol knock on the door. We already met them in El Calafate. After we talk for a while and we realize that we have the same destination for the night, we agree to meet at 5 pm at the tourist information in Rio Tranquilo. But, at first, we need to wait for 15-20 minutes because of road constructions. They are just watering the gravel road. A bit later we see a guy who is working on his bicycle on the road. Ralph stops and asks if he can help and indeed, he\u2019s missing a screw driver that we have. Another Chilean car stops and the driver even speaks German and can help translate. This guy tells us to not do the tour to the \u201cCuevas del Marmol\u201d from Rio Tranquilo but from Puerto Marmol, 5 km south of the city. By the time we found a place at the beach and walk to the tourist information it is already past 5 pm. Steffi and Max just arrive as well. They drive the 5 km to Puerto Marmol, to check the options for the tour tomorrow. Afterwards we go for a short walk and have something to eat. Since we want to take the first tour at 9am, we are awoken by the alarm clock. Ralph asks Steffi & Max to come inside for breakfast and then we start. The drive down to Puerto Mar6mol is extremely steep and windy. The guides explain, that the boat is made for 6 passengers and costs CLP 60,000 in total. They ask if we want to wait for another 2 people or if we are willing to pay CLP 15,000 (approx. \u20ac 17.50) per Person. When nobody arrived in the next 15 minutes, we tell them to leave and we don\u2019t regret this decision. With only 4 on board we can easily switch places and everybody can take pictures in all directions. The approach on the lake is relatively fast but still chilly. There are already a few boats at the caves and we need to wait a few minutes until we can enter the first one and then we are speechless (those who know me, will know that it takes a bit to achive this). The structures and colors of the caves and the water are incredible. Once and again we have new views. According to our guides we have one of the few (only 3-4 days per year) with this weather and light. Even they discover new things, make sure, we see them and then take pictures themselves. We\u2019re back around 11 am but can\u2019t leave since a machine is stuck on the drive and big cars like ours can\u2019t pass. Therefore, we have a coffee and only leave around 2pm. In Riop Tranquilo we drive to the beach again. Steffi and Max join us for a bit, we know that the road further north is closed between 1 and 5 pm, and then leave at 5pm. \u00a0We stay for another night, since we decided that we\u2019ve had enough of gravel roads and therefore will not drive Careterra Austral any further. In the morning we leave towards Los Antiguos. We have to go back approx. 50 km on Careterra Austral and then turn onto Ruta 265-CH, which mainly winds along Lago General Carerra. The first part has been freshly made and is easy to drive. However, the last 30 to 50 km are pretty bad. It feels as if we drove up and down for 100 times and it was exhausting for Ralph. On the other hand, we were awarded with permanently changing views over the lake and the mountains. We stop for a short shopping trip in Chile Chico and then continue to the border. On Chilean side it doesn\u2019t take long but when we reach the Argentinian side there is a big queue. In the evening we realize that our air pressure tune is leaking and the system to hold our waste water tank is broken at one point.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
