English Version (no translation of German text)

We leave Pichilemu and drive via I-90, I-80-G and I-226 to Los Cisnes near Navidad. The route is again hilly and curvy. From La Boca we have to drive another 2.4 km over dune tracks with extreme potholes to the campground, which is located directly at the mouth of the river into the Pacific Ocean. Here we stay 2 nights on invitation of a member of the WhatsApp group Unimog Chile, make a short walk and observe the water sportsmen. There are many kite- and windsurfers around and we also get to know a new sport: Wingfoil Boarding (?). Here the sportsman holds a small sail freely in his hands into the wind. The board is much smaller than a surfboard but has a longer fin. The board is lifted out of the water by the wind pressure and only the feint is left in the water. Next we want to visit the Casa de Pablo Neruda. We don’t like a parking lot next to the street and so we drive a bit further to the parking lot in front of the (closed) Parque Artistico Cantalao. We walk a bit along the coastal road in the evening, but here all residential streets are closed with gates. The next day we drive the few kilometers back to the Casa de Pablo Neruda. Here we visit his extensive collection of all sorts of things. Afterwards we make our way to Valparaiso. Since Valparaiso has many small streets and is very steep, we don’t want to go into the city with the Unimog and therefore set up our domicile for the next 5 nights at the Los Olivos campground in Laguna Verde. After a day of rest we take the bus to the city. First we stroll through the market at Plaza Sotomayor. Then we go to the tourist information and get documents about the sights and information about which Ascensore (elevators) are in operation. With the Ascensor El Pereal we go up the first hill. On foot we walk up and down the next hill, have lunch in a nice little café and take the Ascensor Concepcion back down to the port. We have had enough for today and take the next bus back to the campsite. Also the next day we take the bus into town. This time we get off near the Muelle Baron and walk the last part there. Then we take the bus 3 stops to Plaza Victoria and walk up the stairs to the „Museo Cielo Abierto“. Already on the way we see many murals. Partly they are rather naive paintings, but partly they are very detailed. After we have explored the different streets and murals, we want to take the Ascensor Espiritu Santo back down. Unfortunately, it is not in operation and we make our way on foot. After we have run down a staircase, we stand in a dead end. So back again and then down a street to the harbor. There we make another round trip, which is unfortunately not so great. We sit pretty tight on the boat, everything we only in very fast Spanish explained and the acoustics is also bad. With the bus we go back to the campsite, where in the meantime a youth group has arrived. We listen to their music for a long time. After 2 days of sightseeing we need another day of rest before we continue our way north. When we reach the outskirts of Valparaiso, our navi sends us down one of the hills. This means that we drive with Albatros through narrow, curvy and extremely steep roads down to the harbor. We both make 3 crosses when we are finally down. Via Vina del Mar we then drive over mostly big roads and have to pay 3 x tolls. At a supermarket with a small parking lot Ralph breaks the Plexiglas protection in front of the right headlight. In San Felipe we don’t find a parking place and so we spend the night a little bit outside on a side road. Ralph is pretty tired. The next day we don’t leave until around noon. In Cabildo we stop for lunch and walk a bit through the center, where Christmas decorations are still hanging everywhere and many benches with paintings are in the plaza. After a quiet night, we set off on the crystal route. On this we have to go through four one-lane and unlit former railroad tunnels. Two of them are relatively short and easy to see. One even has a long left turn. So we can’t see if something is coming towards us. To be on the safe side, we honk our horns a few times. The route has its name from the crystal mines it connects and of course there are roadside stands with sales. We still drive to Salmanca and spend the night at the bypass, on which there is relatively much traffic in the evening.

For English version click on “BEITRAG LESEN/READ THE POST” and then scroll to bottom Wir…

Beitrag lesenChile: Los Cisnes – Casa de Pablo Neruda – Valparaiso – Ruta de los Cristales

[1
