Irgendwie scheinen wir kein Gl\u00fcck mit dem Wetter zu haben, wenn wir in gr\u00f6\u00dferen St\u00e4dten sind. Wie schon in Quebec und Montreal ist das Wetter in Ottawa nicht auf unserer Seite. Allerdings ist es diesmal weniger der Regen sondern die K\u00e4lte und der Wind.
\nOttawa ist mit seinen knapp 884tsd Einwohnern die Hauptstadt von Kanada. Es gibt einiges an historischen Geb\u00e4uden zu sehen. Unser gr\u00f6\u00dftes Problem ist es, einen Parkplatz zu finden. Es gibt zwar M\u00f6glichkeiten von der Gr\u00f6\u00dfe her, aber alle Pl\u00e4tze, die nur halbwegs in Innenstadtn\u00e4he sind, haben eine Zeitbegrenzung von zwei Stunden. Au\u00dferdem sind die Parkgeb\u00fchren mit $ 0,25 pro 5 Minuten nicht von schlechten Eltern. Zus\u00e4tzlich erschwert wird unsere Parkplatzsuche durch die vielen Baustellen. Ottawa bereitet sich auf die 150 Jahrfeier in 2017 vor. Irgendwie gelingt es uns jedoch immer, irgendwo einen Platz zu bekommen.
\nWir verbringen einiges an Zeit in der Ecke rund um den Byway Market \u2013 hier gibt es viele kleine Gesch\u00e4fte und Restaurants aller Geschmacksrichtungen \u2013 und am Parliament Hill. Zwischendurch sind wir dann auch mal am New Edingburgh Park. Ganz in der N\u00e4he ist dort die Rideau Hall, quasi der Sitz des kanadischen Bundespr\u00e4sidenten. Leider ist sie f\u00fcr Renovierungsarbeiten geschlossen und so k\u00f6nnen wir nur ein bi\u00dfchen im Park rumlaufen und erkunden, welcher Politiker welchen Baum gepflanzt hat, als er hier zu Besuch war.
\nWir treffen uns zwei Mal f\u00fcr 1,5 bis 2 Stunden mit Claudia, die ich bisher nur aus dem Internet kannte; vielen Dank auch nochmal auf diesem Weg f\u00fcr die Zeit und die vielen Tipps. Sie erz\u00e4hlt uns auch, da\u00df f\u00fcr Donnerstag Schnee angesagt ist. Da es im S\u00fcden w\u00e4rmer sein soll, machen wir uns nachmittags auf den Weg Richtung Toronto. Auf dem Highway 7 sehen wir schon Schneeschieber bereit stehen. Ich halte das f\u00fcr etwas \u00fcbertrieben, werde aber ca. zwei Stunden sp\u00e4ter eines besseren belehrt. Es hat angefangen zu schneien und das Schneetreiben wird zum Teil so dicht, da\u00df wir nicht mehr weit fahren und auf einem Walmart Parkplatz \u00fcbernachten. Ralph schaut nachts den Fahrzeugen dabei zu, wie sie den Parkplatz von einer ca. 10 cm dicken Schneeschicht befreien. Da wir z. Z. Probleme mit der Heizung haben, sind das keine tollen Aussichten.
\nAm n\u00e4chsten Morgen ist es wieder w\u00e4rmer und wir setzen wir unsere Fahrt Richtung Toronto fort. Auf dem HWY 115 werden wir von einer Polizeikontrolle angehalten. Der Polizit meint, wir d\u00fcrften in Ontario nicht mit den deutschen Nummernschildern fahren. Ca. 30 Minunten und einige Telefonate sp\u00e4ter wei\u00df er es auch besser. Er entschuldigt sich mehrfach bei uns und l\u00e4\u00dft uns weiterfahren. Gerade als wir im Randgebiet von Toronto vom Highway runter fahren, f\u00e4llt die Servolenkung aus. Ralph schafft es gerade noch \u00fcber die Strasse auf einen kleinen Parkplatz. Es stellt sich dann heraus, da\u00df eine Befestigungsstrebe f\u00fcr die Lichtmaschine gebrochen ist und daher der Keilriemen keine Spannung mehr hat. Inzwischen ist es auch dunkel und kalt. Irgendwie schafft Ralph es dann, die beiden Teile wieder zusammen zu f\u00fcgen und sie mit einen Schraubschl\u00fcssel und Klebeband zu fixieren. Da muss am Montag dann eine Werkstatt dran.
\nAm Samstag hat sich das Wetter wieder komplett gedreht. Wir haben fast 20\u00b0 und unsere Heizung funktioniert auch wieder. Vom Campingplatz aus fahren wir ca. 7,5 km zum n\u00e4chsten Bahnhof und von dort aus mit dem Schnellzug in die Innenstadt von Toronto. Die Stadt fasziniert uns durch ihre Kombination aus alten Geb\u00e4uden und modernen Hochh\u00e4usern mit verspiegelten Fassaden. Teilweise stehen sie direkt neben- oder aufeinander. Das ganze wirkt aber interessant und nicht wie Pfusch am Bau. Auch hier gibt es eine Untergrundwelt, die wir wegen des Regens mal wieder erforschen. Im Financial District ist am Sonntag aber fast alles geschlossen. Im Stra\u00dfenverkehr fallen die vielen gro\u00dfen Autos auf; Masserati, Porsche, gro\u00dfe Audis, BMWs, Mercedese und ein pinkfarbener Ferrari.
\nUm die Rushhour am Dienstagmorgen zu umgehen, fahren wir am Montagabend noch bis nach Missisauga, denn unser n\u00e4chstes Ziel sind die Niagara F\u00e4lle.<\/p>\n

It seems we have no luck with the weather when visiting the cities. Same as already in Quebec and Montreal it\u2019s not nice. However this time it is not the rain but more the cold and the wind.
\nOttawa with its roughly 884thousand inhabitants is the capital city of Canada. There are a couple of historic buildings to visit but our biggest problem is to find suitable parking. It\u2019s not so much a problem of the size but most parking available close to downtown is limited to 2 hours. Additionally the fee is quite high (CAD 0.25\/5 min). Last but not least there are a lot of construction areas \u2013Ottawa is preparing for the 150 year celebrations in 2017 \u2013 which doesn\u2019t make it easier. Somehow we always manage to find a space.
\nWe spend quite a bit of time in the ByWay Market area \u2013 it has a lot of small boutiques and restaurants for all tastes \u2013 and around Parliament Hill. We also spent some time in the New Edinburgh Park. Close by is Rideau Hall, the seat of the Canadian federal president. Unfortunately it is closed due to construction but we can stroll through the park and see the trees that politicians from all around the world plant, when visiting Canada.
\nTwice we meet Claudia, whom I knew from an internet community for 1.5 to 2 hours. Thank you again for your time and the many tipps. She tells us, that they expect snow on Thursday. Since the weather forecast shows warmer temperatures for the south, we start our trip to Toronto in the afternoon. We already see snow ploughs parked beside highway 7 and I think they are overreacting a bit. However, 2 hours later I know better. It started snowing and it gets so heavy, that we stop early on a Walmart parking. During the night Ralph watches them clearing the parking lot from a 10 cm thick layer of snow. Since right now our heating doesn\u2019t work, this is not a nice forecast.
\nIn the morning it is warmer and we continue our tour to Toronto. On HWY 115 a police patrol stops us. The guy believes that we are not allowed to drive with German number plates in Ontario. Approx. 30 minutes and a couple of phone calls later, he knows better. He excuses a couple of times and we can continue. Just as we leave the motorway on the outskirts of Toronto the servo steering stops working. Ralph manages across the street onto a parking lot. A mounting strut for the generator is broken and therefore the V-belt is not tough enough. Meanwhile it is cold and dark. Somehow Ralph manages to get the two ends together and to stabilize it with a screw wrench and tape. This needs to be welded on Monday.
\nOn Saturday the weather is totally different again. It is nearly 20\u00b0 and our heating is working again. We drive 7.5 km from the campground to the train station and then take the express train into Toronto. The city fascinates us with its combination of old and modern skyscrapers with mirrored facades. Sometimes they are placed directly besides each other or even on top of each other. The effect is interesting. Toronto has an underground world as well, which we explore since it is raining again. In the financial district most of the shops and restaurants are closed on Sundays. On the streets we note a lot of big cars; Maserati, Porsche, big Audis, BMWs, Mercedes and a pink Ferrari.
