Auf der Weiterfahrt sehen wir eine ganze Reihe Pferdekutschen der Amische. Sie geh\u00f6ren zu einer Glaubensgemeinschaft, die moderne Techniken ablehnt. Sie leben abgeschieden von der Au\u00dfenwelt und legen gro\u00dfen Wert auf eine Familie mit klar definierten Geschlechterrollen.
\nKurz vor Spanish passiert dann das, worauf ich schon die ganze Zeit gewartet habe. Wir bleiben mit Spritproblemen liegen; obwohl wir erst 100 km mit der Tankf\u00fcllung gefahren sind. Nachdem Ralph auf einen anderen Tank umgestellt und Luft aus der Leitung gepumpt hat, geht es weiter. Ich stelle fest, da\u00df die Buchhalterin einen Fehler gemacht hat und wir daher auf einen fast leeren Tank umgestellt hatten. Mit einer Rast an einem der vielen Seen, erreichen wir unser Tagesziel Sault St. Marie.
\nDort schauen wir uns am n\u00e4chsten Morgen noch die Schleuse an. Auf der Weiterfahrt stoppen wir beim Totem Pole, einem Souvenirladen mit Arbeiten der First Nation. Ralph schaut sich Trapperm\u00fctzen an, doch $ 100 \u2013 360 (ca. \u20ac 70 \u2013 240) sind ihm dann doch zu viel. Wir machen Stopps an den Chippewa Falls und an mehreren Lookouts. Da die Jagdsaison angefangen hat, sind vermehrt Autos unterwegs, die AWDs mit Gewehrhalterungen auf dem Anh\u00e4nger haben. Kurz vor Wawa \u00fcbernachten wir in Buck\u2019s Marina in Michipicoten River.
\nAm n\u00e4chsten Morgen steuern wir in Wawa als erstes einen Supermarkt an. Gerade als wir aussteigen, biegt ein gr\u00fcnes Wohnmobil mit deutschem KFZ-Kennzeichen auf den Parkplatz ein. Wir lernen Christl & Werner kennen, die seit Anfang August mit ihrem \u201eSchneckerl\u201c in Kanada unterwegs sind. Wir waren uns schon in Lunenburg begegnet. Dort aber auf der Stra\u00dfe. Als die beiden unser Auto auf dem Parkplatz gesehen haben, sind sie extra abgebogen um uns anzusprechen. Wir unterhalten uns eine Weile und tauschen Kontaktdaten aus. Da wir die gleiche Strecke vor uns haben, gehen wir davon aus, da\u00df wir uns auch nochmal treffen. Schon am ersten Abend ist das der Fall, wa wir beide am Marathon Penn Lake vor dem geschlossenen Campingplatz \u00fcbernachten. Als wir abends zusammen sitzen, kommt die Feuerwehr mit mehreren Autos angefahren. Einer der M\u00e4nner klopft an und wir denken schon, da\u00df wir weiterfahren m\u00fcssen. Er will uns aber nur warnen, dass sie dort jetzt eine \u00dcbung haben und wir uns keine Sorgen machen m\u00fcssen. Die n\u00e4chsten Tage spielen wir dann Hase & Igel. Nur ist der Hase unser Albatros und der Igel das Schneckerl von Christl & Werner.
\nAuf der Weiterfahrt sehen wir Adler, haben aber f\u00fcr gute Fotos das falsche Objektiv auf der Kamera. Wir machen einen Stop an der Aquasabon River Gorge ehe wir uns auf der Travel Plaza bei Loon f\u00fcr die Nacht zu den Truckern stellen.
\nAm n\u00e4chsen Morgen haben wir, nachdem ich im Bad war, einen Wassereinbruch (2-3 Liter) in der Kabine. Wir brauchen einen C-Platz um nach der Ursache zu suchen und den Schaden zu beheben. Die Mitarbeiterin in der Touristinformation am Terry Fox Memorial ist sehr hilfsbereit und telefoniert ein paar Pl\u00e4tze f\u00fcr uns ab. Sie findet tats\u00e4chlich einen, der noch ge\u00f6ffnet ist. Allerdings ist er in Dryden und nach dort werden wir es erst am n\u00e4chsten Tag schaffen. Unsere heutige Etappe f\u00fchrt uns mit Stop an den Kakabeka Falls nach Upsala. Kurz vor dem Ort ist ein C-Platz, der geschlossen ist. Wir k\u00f6nnen aber trotzdem reinfahren. Als wir M\u00e4nner fragen, ob wir stehen bleiben k\u00f6nnen, schicken sie uns weiter zum Ort. Die Zufahrt zum C-Platz ist dort zwar offen, aber er sieht ziemlich geschlossen aus. Ralph geht zum General Store und fragt, ob wir am Platz stehen bleiben d\u00fcfen. Leider wird uns das verwehrt. Wir machen eine \u201eStadtrundfahrt\u201c und fahren auch noch einige km am See entlang. Da wir keinen Platz finden, fahren wir zur\u00fcck und \u00fcbernachten an der Tankstelle.
\nMorgens ist es kalt und die Seen neben der Stra\u00dfe sind gefroren. Kurz vor Ignace ist der Highway auch mit Salz gestreut. Rechts und links ist alles mit einer wei\u00dfen Puderschicht \u00fcberzogen. Gegen Mittag sind wir in Dryden auf dem C-Platz. Wir buchen uns erst f\u00fcr 2 Tage ein, verl\u00e4ngern dann aber nochmal um 2 Tage, damit Ralph genug Zeit hat, Albatros wieder halbwegs auf Vordermann zu bringen. Wir verbringen die Tage mit Arbeiten am Auto, W\u00e4sche waschen etc.
\nAm Montag kommen Christl & Werner uns besuchen und wir sitzen abends wieder zusammen.
\nWir fahren jetzt in gro\u00dfen Etappen Richtung Westen weiter.<\/p>\n

Besides the highway we see a couple of horse carriages. They belong to the Amish people, who are a church group. They are known for simple living and reluctance to adopt modern technology. Amish church groups seek to maintain a degree of separation from the non-Amish world. They value family live with clear roles defined by gender.
\nShortly before we reach Spanish we have fuel issues. After Ralph switched to a different tank and pumped the air out of the diesel tube we can continue. After some investigation I realize that the accountant made a mistake and matched the mileage to a wrong tank and therefore we switched to a nearly empty one. With a break at one of the many lakes, we reach Sault St. Marie.
\nBefore we leave, we visit the Watergate and stop at the Totem Pole, a souvenir shop with work from the First Nations. Ralph looks at trapper caps, but decides that $ 100 \u2013 360 (ca. \u20ac 70 \u2013 240) is too expensive. We stop at the Chippewa Falls and a couple of lookouts. Since hunting season has started, we see a couple of cars pulling AWDs with mounts for rifles on their trailers. Just outside of Wawa we stay at Buck\u2019s Marina in Michipicoten River for the night.
\nOur first destination in the morning is a supermarket. Just as we get out of our car a green camper car with German number plates enters the parking lot. We meet Christl & Werner, who are travelling with their camper \u201cSchneckerl\u201d through Canada since beginning of August. Our ways already crossed at Lunenburg but then it was only on the street. When they saw our car on the parking lot they stopped to talk to us. We chat for a while and exchange contact data. Since we are heading in the same direction we assume that we\u2019ll meet again. This already happens on the 1st evening when we both stay for the night at Marathon Penn Lake. While we are sitting together the fire brigade pulls up with a couple of vehicles. One of the firefighters knocks at the door and we already think he\u2019ll tell us that we can\u2019t stay. However, he only explains that they\u2018ll have a fire drill and we should not be concerned. Over the next couple of days we play \u201ebunny & hedgehog\u201c with Albatros being the bunny and Christl\u2019s and Werner\u2019s Schneckerl the hedgehog.
\nWhen moving on the next morning we see eagles besides the street but don\u2019t have the right lens for good pictures on the camera. We stop at Aquasabon River Gorge and pull up besides the truckers at Travel Plaza near Loon for the night.
\nAfter I come out of our bathroom on the next morning, we have 2-3 litres of water in our cabin. We need a campground to find the source and get the issue fixed. The lady in the VIC at the Terry Fox Memorial is very helpful and phones a couple of places. She finds a campground in Dryden that is still open but we\u2019ll not make it there until tomorrow. Today\u2019s leg brings us to Upsala with a stop at Kakabeka Falls. Just outside of the town is a closed campground but we the gate is open. We see some men and when we ask them if we can stay for the night, they tell us to better go to the one in town. The situation is the same; we can drive in but the campground looks pretty closed. Ralph asks at the general store if we can stay. Unfortunately they tell us this is not possible. Therefore we make a \u201csight-seeing tour\u201d through the town and drive a couple of km along the lake. Since we can\u2019t find a place we drive back and stay at the gas station.
\nThe morning is pretty cold and the lakes are all frozen. Around Ignace there is salt on the Highway and to our right and left everything is covered with a small layer of white. We reach the campground in Dryden around noon. Initially we book for 2 nights but then extend for another 2 to provide Ralph enough time to bring Albatros up to speed. We used the days for maintenance, washing, baking etc.
\nOn Monday Christl & Werner reach Dryden as well and we spend the evening together.
